About
These "about" things always sound so pretentious when written in the third person. The work should say it all. But, bowing to the form, I submit a brief history of me.
My origins are midwestern. Michigan with a dash of Ohio. I'm descended from generations of very ordinary people. Very. Farmers, mostly. As a kid I was decidedly non-athletic and, since I couldn't sing or dance, I made art. Inevitably I earned a B.A., M.A., and and M.F.A. in painting, mostly. The degrees are as insignificant as the institutions that granted them. After school I made my way to New York and worked in the art department of Sports Illustrated. Oh, irony. Through a series wonderful accidents that make themselves available to those who dare to get lucky I became a photographer. Fashion. Lived in Paris for several delicious years. Traveled the world. Shot for English Vogue, Revlon, Marie Claire, Depeche Mode, Glamour, etc. Bumped around the fashion and advertising worlds back in New York until gravity pulled me back to painting. I paint murals for the rich and famous through amazing interior designers and continue to paint and draw in my Harlem studio.
